Quick answer: A bead breaker frees the tyre bead from the wheel rim — the first job in any manual tyre change. Which type is right for you?
Struck chisel — BB/0 / BB/0/S
The simplest and lightest option. You place the forged chisel where the bead meets the rim and strike it with a lump hammer; the EVA guard protects your knuckles. Pick the full 20″ BB/0 for general work, or the 10″ BB/0/S when a full-length bar is awkward to hold up against a tall tractor or plant tyre.
Single slide-hammer — BB/1
The BB/1 has the weight built in: grip it two-handed and slide the outer body to drive the chisel, with no separate hammer to carry. At around 9 kg it's the natural choice for mobile and agricultural work where a puncture has to be dealt with in the field.
Double-handled slide-hammer — BB/4
The heavy-duty option at 13–14 kg. The BB/4 has a square body, solid two-handed handle and a spring-loaded safety trigger for carrying. Generally used on a wheel already off the vehicle — built for professional, fleet, quarry and heavier agricultural tyres.
Hold the bead open — BW/1 bead wedge
Once the bead's broken, a BW/1 bead wedge hooks over the rim and holds the bead clear while you work — especially useful on tyres changed on the vertical.
