Melco BB/1 Slide-Hammer Bead Breaker – 37″ closed / 61″ open

A slide-hammer bead breaker you use without a separate hammer. The forged chisel is encased in an outer tube with a reinforced, weighted percussion end; grasp it two-handed and slide the outer body up and down to drive the chisel and break the bead. Chisel hot forged in Sheffield on 28mm carbon steel and zinc plated; the slide body is fabricated and powder coated. About 9kg. Favoured for on-site and agricultural work where a puncture has to be dealt with in the field. With the wheel off the vehicle, place the chisel at the bead/rim line, grip two-handed and slide the outer tube up and down to break the bead, then use tyre levers. Agricultural users, green keepers and smaller tyre fitters working on-site. Wipe down with an oily cloth if left standing. The chisel face will mushroom over with heavy use, like a cold chisel - dress it back on a grinding wheel. On slide-hammer types check the welds and reinforced ends. Wear eye protection when striking metal on metal.
