Melco TL/40 Round Hooked Split Rim Lever – 19½″ (520mm)

A hooked split rim lever - it does what it says on the tin. The hooked end catches behind the cam on a split-rim locking ring and prizes it open; the pointed end helps finish the job. Forged in Sheffield on 16mm alloy steel bar, with an upset ‘lollipop' forged into the hooked end for enough material, then heat treated. A steady mover, and the more popular of our two round split rim levers by a wide margin. Locate the hooked end behind the locking-ring cam, lever to spring the ring open, then use the pointed end to lift it clear. Commercial tyre fitters working split-rim / locking-ring wheels. Effectively maintenance-free. Daily use keeps it in condition; if it is left standing, wipe it down with an oily cloth to keep rust off. Nothing needs sharpening. Check for any snags or sharp edges that could tear a tyre, and never weld anything to the lever - the heat alters the steel.
